Reunion Plans

Ok, peeps, let's get going!!

Are these the days we'll all be there?

Saturday:
Sunday: church of course, but what low key things could we do? do fhe this night?
Monday: FHE, make some assignments?
Tuesday:
Wednesday: fireworks/bbq/picnic?

Ideas we've discussed and some from Adrianne (thanks Adrianne!):

Cousin Carnival: http://www.landeeseelandeedo.com/2011/07/summer-activity-idea-cousin-carnival.html

Farm day: would this be an all day thing or just a morning or afternoon?

Unbirthday party: games? pinata? food??

Family pictures

Denver: zoo, temple grounds, Casa Bonita(http://casabonitadenver.com/) open lunch or dinner, would probably do best to make a reservation here

-Garden of the Gods—easy hikes or longer ones

-Hikes in the mountains (maybe roasting marshmallows)

-Focus on the Family (playing and ice cream) open 10-12 and 1-4pm for the slide (http://www.focusonthefamily.com/about_us/welcome-center.aspx) this is free to enter

-Fox Run Park (really fun park with playgrounds and big open fields—it’s in the middle of a forest—also has BBQ pits and stuff) play games here? Frisbee, football, etc?

-lots of fun game ideas(survivor, amazing race, poison, etc)!! Maybe a game night, or a few planned and ready to play during down time?

Girl time, for just the girls, while the boys have boy time?

Bowling, roller skating, swimming?

Any other suggestions?? Let's talk!

here is another idea
http://www.tucanos.com/menu.html

I would suggest a lunch for adults only....

Oh yeah, if we want to do an adults thing than I need to know in enough time to set up babysitters.

well, Adrianne, we don't need a sitter, you and I can just go out and do whatever we want every day and leave our kids with everyone else who has no comments about what we do!!

Ummmm,
As a commenter (this one counts, right?) I would enjoy going out with you two and leaving the kiddies behind:)

As for the other stuff, I think I would enjoy all of those things. Let me go down your list:
Cousin Carnival-Sounds fun!
Farm day-I'm really looking forward to this.
Unbirthday party-Sounds fun!
Family Pictures-With a professional or just staging our families and snaping pics ourselves, I think this is important
Denver-I like zoos, and temples. Casa Bonita looks really cool, but expensive.
Garden of the Gods-We went here last summer and had a good time. Since we're all working out to get into shape, we should all be ready to do a 12 mile four hour hike, right!
Focus on the Family
We've seen the slide, but couldn't go on it last time. This time we're going to.
Fox Run Park-I like playgrounds, and forests.
Game ideas-I'm not sure what your examples are, but I'm sure they'd be fun.
Girl time-as long as you don't go to chip n' dales...
I enjoy bowling, roller skating, and swimming.
That's what I think.

Mandy, It's a date!

The cousin carnival needs some preparation if people want to do that one but I don't think it should be too hard. As for Casa Bonita, it is expensive if I remember correctly and the food is not good, but you don't go for the food. It was a fun time for the boys. The boys love Garden of the Gods and will be really excited to go there. Focus on the family--Andy, I'm not sure you can go down it this time either. Well, no, I think Nick can but not Noah. That is the one tricky thing about Focus on the Family--you have to be a certain height but then there is another room that younger kids are allowed in and the older kids can't play in. But they have good ice cream...Fox Run Park is fun. It's just a big, gigantic park with open fields and a few different playgrounds. You can play soccer, croquet, grill, let the kids play at the playground etc. We also have a skating rink nearby but I would need to check hours for that.

Two more thoughts from me:

It will be a big deal for some of my kids if they don't all get to go on the slide at focus on the family. So it some are eliminated by height, then that might not be a good activity...

Thinking about Denver. I am having new thoughts here. Casa Bonita is a fun memory I have. Considering that we have to drive an hour in and out, the food is expensive and not good and we are doing a lot of catering to the kids, which we should, no objection there, I think I am voting differently. Rather than go to Denver and go out and spend money and gas there, I'd rather have a fun meal out with the adults, lunch or dinner, and not take the kids to a restaurant. Maybe some of your kids are better than mine, but I'd have less enjoyment out with my kids than with the adults. Plus, with so many of us, we'd probably be just sitting with our own families anyway.

So, to summarize, I vote Denver out. We'd rather spend less time in the car and more fun at parks or games in the back yard.

Anyone else want to comment for or against me? Please do!

Denver is far, I agree. And I would enjoy and adults night. My boys really enjoyed Casa Bonita but we can do there whenever we want. I'm happy either way. Focus on the Family is fun and the slide is cool but it is by height and some would not get to go on it--it always annoys me when we go and Eli can't go on it but then his older brothers can come play in the room Eli is in. There is a zoo in Colorado Springs--it's smaller but just the right size in my opinion if anyone is sad that not going to Denver would eliminate the zoo. Mostly, for my sanity, I just don't want us sitting around my house with nothing planned. It will really drive me nuts. But, I'm not saying some of that isn't good--I just don't want most days to be unplanned and have crazy children running around my house all day long.

What about crazy adults?? I say we plan a few activities for each day, plan the meals and then maybe even have some backup stuff, run through the sprinklers or some games on hand, too.

Sounds good--I don't want to be over-scheduled, either. The farm would probably be a 2 or 3 hour thing. It's only 5 acres, but he does a lot with his 5 acres.

I'm also fine with not going to Denver--I really dislike the traffic there.

I'd prefer to do FHE on Sunday unless we can think of a better Sunday activity. I wonder if we should schedule some time to make cheese together...

Andy Laura Nick and Noah said...

I would like to make cheese, but even more, i would like to EAT cheese....

I like to eat cheese, too! Hey, does anyone do parades on the 4th? what about fireworks?
